Have you ever wondered is God real?
This is a question many of us wrestle with at some point in our lives. For some, this question comes early and with no previous understanding, but only from pure wonder. However, for others, it takes someone or something to leave us in a dark place where we search to discover the answer to this question because life no longer makes sense and we feel lost. So, we search for the One who created life and created us, and we ask is God real?
The answer to this question could not be more evident in the Bible, but also in the world around us.
I love how David wrote this Psalm, to demonstrate God’s role in creation and nature. Psalm 19:1:
"The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands."
I captured this beautiful sunset, one of the many of God’s paintings for us to enjoy. “The skies proclaim the work of His hands,” God speaks to us through nature, for it is all His creation. Read back in Genesis, from the beginning, to see how effortlessly but magnificently God created the Earth and everything in it, including us.
If you read about us, you know we love a good, relaxing walk in nature. It clears your thoughts and puts you at ease knowing it is all in God’s hands, even if you feel as if you are crumbling. With two young children, aimless drives can also be helpful for naptimes. I often find myself grabbing my phone to capture the beauty around me. Either an incoming storm amongst a sunset, a drive of vibrant greenery along a curvy road with perfect picturesque clouds, or a beautiful view from camping in the wonderful wilderness of the woods.. God’s voice speaks amongst the nature He has created. His still voice finds us when we look around and experience Him.
Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God!
I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
You might be wondering: I see God’s handiwork in nature, but how can I truly know He’s real—even beyond what I see with my eyes?”
Great question, and truthfully, there is so much mystery in our walk with God and of God’s character. Some things will only ever be answered in Heaven. To the best of our abilities, we will try to explain our thoughts on how you can know God is real beyond what you physically see.
Our answer:
We all have an instinct of what is good and what is not because there is a sense of morality that runs deeper than human laws. Some would argue that there are no objective truths, yet most of those who reject objectivity still live by those truths. I’ll illustrate, if you find one hundred dollars in a wallet on the sidewalk, with a paper inside telling you the owner’s address, would you return it? I’d wager so, but there is no rational reason to do so. Except perhaps, the praise the person would give you. The code of God’s law is written on all of our hearts, whether or not we care to admit it.
The code of God’s law points to a higher presence, a higher order than you or I. The inherent morality that most of us possess demonstrates this. That’s not even to mention the inherent order of the world that God has set us in. Think of how carefully aligned the planets are, that Earth is no closer or further away where it would be incinerated, where the moon aligns in such a perfect way to perform eclipses with the sun. The same God of order, not entropy, created us in His image. We live in a highly designed world, a fallen world, but not one of aimless chaos. One would only need to look at the stars and the universe to realize that.
We as humans try to grasp the creation and understanding of God; however, it has always been a mystery to us. As I said, there are only some things that will be answered in Heaven. Scientists still ponder and try to discover the exact nature of the world and how it was designed, but God is a mysterious God. God longs for us to discover Him and have a relationship with Him, but He has never said we will have all the answers. There is beauty and comfort in knowing that. We can rest that it is in the Almighty’s hands and that He knows everything.
You may say: Sure, you make some good points, but do you think we will believe God is real based on what you say?
We are unsure; that decision is between you and God. However, we pray and hope that God uses these words we have written to speak to you and that you allow Him to reveal Himself to you. But the decision to see God move in your life and experience all He has for you is dependent on you entrusting God with your heart. Do you feel God speaking to you? Nudging you with the sense that maybe He is real? There is no denying that God is a living, speaking, and active God.
Common Questions following “is God real?“
Does God love me for who I am?
Sometimes we feel like we have done too much wrong for God to love us for who we are. That is only a lie from the enemy. I am sure you have heard of this Psalm… Psalm 139 is a beautiful Psalm written to fully grasp God’s love for us. Read it with me:
You have searched me, Lord,
Psalm 139: 1-18 (NIV)
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,”
12 even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to you.
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place,
when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body;
all the days ordained for me were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
17 How precious to me are your thoughts, God!
How vast is the sum of them!
18 Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand—
when I awake, I am still with you.
God loves you for you, no matter where you come from or what your past looks like. Dwell within His love, precious child.
How can I have a relationship with God?
As I mentioned earlier, it is a decision you have to make for yourself. The decision to fully surrender your heart and life to Jesus. Here are a few verses to help you as you come to the decision to surrender:
How do I live for God now and not for the world?
Once you surrender your heart to Jesus, all else falls into place. God will transform your life. Your desires and life will look radically different. For in the Bible it says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come” – 2 Corinthians 6:8. Come as you are to God, and He will guide you in the path of righteousness. Rest in knowing He will not let you stumble, but continue to fix your eyes on Jesus, because the enemy will always try to get you to take your eyes off of the One who will direct you into many blessings.
Though we will face many trials and tribulations in this life, Jesus says: “But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Walking through the trials of this life hand in hand with Jesus through prayer and fellowship with Him is so much richer and easier than without Jesus.
Everywhere we look, God’s handiwork is woven into the world around us—each sunrise, each breeze, each flower quietly pointing back to Him. Our prayer for you is that the next time you step outside or glance out a window, you take a moment to truly soak in the beauty He’s given us—not just to enjoy, but to draw closer to His heart.
We hope you never lose that sense of wonder when looking at creation, because it reflects His love, His holiness, and His presence. So today, we gently encourage you: step outside, take a deep breath, and sit in stillness among whatever nature is nearest to you. In that quiet moment, may you feel God drawing near, speaking to you through His creation.
Some of our favorite ways to connect with God in Nature:
- Take walks at local trails and parks
- Go camping to rest in God’s creation and away from the hustle of life
- Grab our Bible and a drink (usually coffee) and sit outdoors
- Look in awe around us everywhere we go
